Design Note
Braided rugs are considered to be of a "hit and miss" design. This means that colors and color blends will fall in a randon manner. Therefore, no two rugs, regardless of size, will be identically the same. The use of space dyed yarns or multi-colored cloth, braided in a seamless process, creates the final design. Note that standard sizes are very close to indicated measurements; however, a finished size tolerance of +/- 2" needs to be allowed.
Custom Sizes
Our “Made to Order” policy is designed for the consumer that requires to size a rug for a very specific area. Simply identify the size needed (width x length – example 12’ 7” x 14’ 2”) in increments of one (1) inch and we will custom size your rug. Our maximum size dimensions are 15’ x 20’ oval or 20’ x 20’ round. Email your custom size.
Although our completed sizes are very close, if not exact to size requested, a finished size tolerance of +/- 2” needs to be allowed.

Cloth Braided Construction
Beacon Hill, Minuteman and Pilgrim's Heritage II rugs are “cloth” constructed. Cloth constructed braids start from bolts of fabric, then are cut and folded into strips and then braided. There is no filler used and you have a product that is more true to its origin. These features are beneficial to giving the rug a period appearance.
A braided rug is as strong and durable as the thread used to sew it together. Beacon Hill rugs use the highest quality thread available. If inferior thread is used, it will start to breakdown in manufacturing when subjected to the heat of the sewing needle. Beacon Hill, Minuteman and Pilgrim's Heritage II rugs are sewn with heavy cotton-wrapped spun polyester thread, similar to what shoe manufacturers use to sew shoes. In addition, a lock stitch method is utilized so that if one stitch should break, the thread will not keep unraveling.
Yarn Braided Construction
Yarn braided rugs are made with a yarn that is manufactured to rigid specifications. Color, texture and design are controlled by precise weaving techniques. Yarn spools of 2-ply strength of specified fibers are woven into strips of fabric. Thorndike takes this extra step initially to maximize the durability of your yarn-braided rug. The woven yarn is hand wound by skilled craftsmen in preparation for braiding. The spools of woven yarn are braided around a natural/synthetic fiber core. The filler is a blend of natural cotton and synthetic fibers that will not shrink and the outer surface is made from:
Pioneer Valley II - 60% air entangled polypropylene fibers / 40% spun, 2-ply acrylic
Green Mountain - 60% polypropylene fibers / 40% acrylic
Beantown - 60% polypropylene fibers / 40% acrylic
These yarn constructed braided rugs will provide years of satisfaction at a surprisingly affordable price. Beantown, Green Mountain and Pioneer Valley II is available in a wide assortment of sizes and fourteen beautifully designed colorways.
