Taunton Ladderback Side Chair

$329 – $429

The Taunton Ladderback Chair is a classic example of the ladderback chair. Ladderbacks, also called slat-back chairs, get their names from the horizontal slats across the back of the chair, resembling the slats of a ladder. Ladderbacks are believed to originate in the Middle Ages in Europe and their popularity rose significantly after the Protestant Reformation due to their plain style – a trait valued by early Protestants. Ladderbacks were brought across the Atlantic by the early American colonists and were embraced by all classes of colonists. They served as a dining chair, a sitting chair and even as pew chairs. Today, these chairs are still very popular and are commonly used as dining room or kitchen chairs.
